Centre approves proposal for leasing out Jaipur, Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram airports
- In 2018, Cabinet approved leasing out six airports, including Jaipur, Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram airports
- The other three are Lucknow, Ahmedabad and Mangaluru airports
- Adani Enterprises had won the rights to run the six airports
The Union Cabinet has approved the proposal for leasing out airports in Jaipur, Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram through public-private partnership (PPP), PTI reported. Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar announced the decision in a press conference on Wednesday, following the Union Cabinet meeting.
The Union Cabinet in 2018, approved leasing out six airports, including Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Mangaluru, Thiruvananthapuram, and Guwahati, through PPP model.
Adani Enterprises had won the rights to run six airports after a competitive bidding process in February 2019, PTI reported.
All the six airports are owned by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), a statutory body that works under the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
The Union Minister also announced several other decisions approved by the Cabinet, including setting up of a National Recruitment Agency to conduct Common Eligibility Test.
