Stand-up comedian Daniel Fernandes issued a public apology to fans of Sushant Singh Rajput on his social media
handles, after previously publishing a stand-up bit where he had touched upon
the subject of the late-Bollywood actor’s death.

“My recent stand-up video appears to
have offended a lot of fans of the late Sushant Singh Rajput, many of who have
pointed out that an apology is in order. And I agree! …”, Fernandes said in
his apology.

Fernandes further stated that his intention
as a comedian is always to “entertain you and make you laugh”, adding that
sometimes in order to do so one “might invoke an unfavourable response”.

The Mumbai-based comic pointed out
that he had incorrectly used the word ‘acquitted’ while referring to Rhea
Chakraborty, as the actor was at the time out on bail.

The issue, however, did not get
resolved at that.

In a statement seemingly directed at
the media and the fans at large, Fernandes posted another update on his Instagram
handle on January 14, wherein he clarified that his apology was in reference to
the factual error and “not for the jokes in it”, stating clearly that “the
video stays.”

He took on the fans, seemingly, and
suggested them to be people who cannot understand satire.

The original stand-up video had been
published on January 11.
