Canadian athlete Camryn Rogers scripted history at the Commonwealth Games 2022 when she set a new Games record in women’s hammer throw qualifying round Group A. The 23-year-old achieved a throw of 74.68 metres in her first attempt, setting a new record at the Commonwealth Games.

Rogers has been in the form of her life in the ongoing year and came to the Commonwealth Games 2022 after winning the silver medal at the World Athletics Championships in July. The star Canadian athlete threw a distance of 75.52 metres in her third attempt at the event in Oregon, USA, becoming the first Canadian to win a medal in the hammer throw at the tournament. It was also Canada’s first medal at the world championships.

“Oh my gosh. I feel so completely overwhelmed right now with emotion. I am so happy,” Rogers told CBC Sports after her heroics at the World Athletics Championships.

Rogers was part of the Canadian contingent at the Tokyo Olympics, where she finished in the fifth position of the women’s hammer throw. However, since then she has gone from strength to strength, as she broke the NCAA DI record and established a new Canadian national record with a throw of 77.67 metres at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

The world no.4 also had success in the junior circuit before she turned pro, winning gold medals at the Pan American U20 Championships and World U20 Championships in 2017 and 2018 respectively.
