The CWG 2022 had 10 core events in the previous edition, which will be integrated with five more in this year. However, while major sports like cricket have been included in the edition, a few major sports have missed out in this edition. Let’s find out which sports have been excluded from the 2022 edition.

Archery
The upcoming edition of the Commonwealth Games will not be hosting archery as an event. An optional sporting event at the mega event since 1982, archery has only been included twice in the competition. The last time it was included in the CWG was in 2010, when India managed to win eight medals, including two gold medals at the tournament.
After exclusion of archery at CWG 2022, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) termed it as a “grave injustice” to the nation.
Shooting
Similar to archery, Shooting also will not be witnessed at CWG 2022 because of logistical issues. This will force talented Indian shooters such as Manu Bhaker, Saurabh Chaudhary and Heena Sidhu to limit their ambitions.
In the previous edition at Gold Coast, India had won 16 medals in shooting, including seven gold medals.
Lawn tennis
One of the most popular sports out there, lawn tennis will not be a part of Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. It was introduced at the mega event in 2010 during the New Delhi edition, but has been left excluded since.
India had won four medals in lawn tennis in the 2010 edition, including one gold medal.

Rowing
While aquatics have been listed as an event in the CWG 2022, rowing unfortunately, have been excluded from the mega event. One of the original sports to the Commonwealth Games, 1986 was the last time rowing was included in the mega event. While the sport has gained traction since then, it has not been included in the CWG.
The host country, England, as part of the Great Britain Olympic team, won two medals in rowing at the Tokyo Olympics last year.
