CWG 2022: Shiva Thapa, Sharath Kamal, Anahat Singh shine on Day 1
- India lost a close match to Australia in women's T20
- In several other events, India put on an impessive show

The Indian cricket team did suffer a tight loss to Australia. Apart from that, India looked impressive in sports in which it was expected to excel. They triumphed in women’s hockey, triathlon, badminton, squash, and boxing.
The qualification of Srihari Natraj for the Swimming Semi-Finals was a ray of hope for the Indian team after Sajan Prakash and Kushagra Singh failed to advance from their respective heats.

India crushed Pakistan 5-0 in badminton without breaking a sweat. The Indian women’s hockey team also won convincingly, albeit their 5-0 victory over Ghana should have been much better. Shiva Thapa, India’s only boxer in the competition, likewise defeated his Pakistani opponent Baloch with a decisive 5-0 victory.
The Indian peddlers and squash players were also outstanding, with Anahat Singh, a 14-year-old squash star, winning her Round of 64 Women’s Singles match 3-0. Abhay Singh also won his Round of 64 game 3-0, advancing both to the Round of 32.

The Indian Men’s Table Tennis team advanced to the quarter-finals by defeating Barbados and Singapore 3-0 each. Sharath Kamal performed great to come back and win two games against Singapore.
India was not expected to perform well in other sports such as cycling, lawn bowls, and swimming, and they did not. Despite this, India did win a Lawn Bowls match against the Falkland Islands.

After a highly impressive Day 1 at CWG 2022, India will try to retain the momentum and complete the second day of the games with the same zeal and passion.
After a day of primarily preliminary round bouts, India will vie for medals on Day 2 when the weightlifting competitions begin. Mirabai Chanu, an Olympic silver medalist, will be one of the four weightlifters competing. Lovlina Borgohain, a bronze medalist in Tokyo, will also begin her campaign on Saturday.
