Congress leader Sachin Pilot calls for postponement of JEE, NEET
- Congress and several other parties, have demanded postponement of the exams
- Congress is staging nationwide protests on Friday
- An online campaign has also been launched by the party
As the Congress is staging nationwide protests, opposing JEE (Main) and NEET being conducted amid a global pandemic, senior party leader Sachin Pilot on Friday said, “if we keep raising the matter, Centre will have to consider the demands of people and postpone JEE and NEET examinations,” ANI reported.
Congress launched nationwide protests on Friday from 11:00 am onwards. They are being staged in front of the central government offices, at state and district headquarters.
The party also launched an online campaign #SpeakUpForStudentSafety, from 10:00 am onwards.
The Joint Entrance Examination for admission to engineering courses is scheduled to be held from September 1 to 6. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to medical courses, is scheduled on September 13.
Several politicians and activists have opposed the decision to conduct the exams in the middle of a global pandemic.
With over 3.3 million cases and over 60,000 deaths, India is the third-worst hit nation by the novel coronavirus.
