Former Congress leader PC Chacko on Tuesday announced he will formally join the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) headed by Sharad Pawar, reported PTI. Chako quit Congress last week.
After meeting CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, Chacko told reporters in New Delhi, “I am formally joining the NCP today.”
According to Chacko, he would work for the victory of the Left candidates in the April 6 Assembly polls, which is NCP’s partner in the southern state .
Chacko quit the Congress over his differences with the party leaders in Kerala. Announcing his resignation from the Congress last week, he had alleged group interest in deciding party candidates for the coming assembly elections.
He told ANI last week, “I’d been deliberating upon this decision for past many days. I come from Kerala where there’s no Congress party as such. There are 2 parties – Congress (I) & Congress (A). It’s coordination committee of two parties functioning as KPCC.”
The veteran leader added, “Kerala is facing a crucial election. People want Congress to come back but there’s groupism practiced by top leaders of Congress. I’ve been arguing with high command that this should be ended. But the high command is also agreeing to the proposal given by both groups.”
