An avalanche was reported in an area close to the Niti valley in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district on Friday. Border Roads Organisation (BRO) officials, who were on their way to the spot, said that they had received information that a part of a glacier had collapsed ahead of Sumna Chowk near Malari in the Niti Valley, reported PTI.

The BRO officials said that heavy snowfall has made it difficult for them to establish contact and the glacier slid down to an area where laborers were engaged in a road construction work.

A BRO team was rushed to the spot but there was no clue on the damage
caused, he said.
