‘Happy to see tremendous progress in India-US relations’: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Secretary of Defense Mark Esper and said he is happy to see tremendous progress in India-US relations and the results of 2+2 dialogue.
Pompeo and Esper earlier on Tuesday had held the India-US 2+2 dialogue with their Indian counterparts EAM S Jaishankar and Rajnath Singh, where they inked a landmark defence agreement that will allow the sharing of high-end military technology, classified satellite data and critical information between the two countries.

“Pleasure meeting US Secys of State & Defence, Mike Pompeo & Mark Esper. Happy to see tremendous progress in India-US relations & results of 2+2 dialogue. Our Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership stands on firm foundation of shared principles, common strategic interest,” PM Modi wrote on Twitter.
Pompeo, speaking ahead of the meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said, “Our leaders & citizens see with increasing clarity that Chinese Communist Party is no friend to democracy, rule of law, transparency… I’m glad to say India & US are taking all steps to strengthen cooperation against all threats & not just those posed by CCP,” as per ANI report.

India and the US have been signing major agreements to boost bilateral defence and military ties, and have also conducted military drills in the Indo-Pacific region to curtail the rising influence of China.
During his visit, Mike Pompeo representing the US engaged in a 2+2 Ministerial dialogue and stated the US will stand with India as they confront threats to their sovereignty.
