IIT-M startup sets world record for teaching 1 lakh people online

An IIT-Madras startup, GUVI Geek network Private Limited, along with All India council for Technical Education (AICTE) bagged the Guinness World Record for making most numbers of users to take computer programming lesson in 24 hours.

A total of 112, 314 people participated in the AI-For India event, which was organised on April 24 and April 25, 2021 by IIT-Madras startup GUVI and AICTE to upskill all the people who participated in Python programming language.

Swapnil Dangarikar, official adjudicator of Guinness World Record on April 30, presented the certificate during the online event. People from all sections of society, including kids, job seeker, IT-professional, college graduate, non-IT professional and school students all took part in the ‘AI For India’.

Professor Rajiv Kumar, member secretary of All India Council for Technical Education, during the online event said, “Non Engineering students those pursuing graduation and even school students have taken part in the event.”

He added, “This is the second World Record that AICTE has been involved in the past one year. AICTE will continue to work with startups like GUVI.”

GUVI was started in 2012 by a group of IIT Madras students as a YouTube channel. It was a two way platform. Students can learn to do programming and the companies can come to recruit.
