India a ‘devastating reminder’ of damage COVID-19 pandemic can do, says WHO chief

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the chief of World Health Organization (WHO) on Friday at a virtual briefing in Geneva said the COVID-19 situation in India was a “devastating reminder of what a virus can do.”

He said he was concerned about the increasing caseload in India and also highlighted that people all across the World are dying because they are not being vaccinated or treated against COVID-19.

WHO further added, it has been a year since the COVID-19 pandemic broke and still the report shows that about 90% of the World’s countries are still reporting disruption to their essential health services.

India is in the middle of the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and as per the health ministry India recorded 3,46,786 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours taking the country’s tally to 1,66,10,481. A total of 2,624 people died on Friday taking the death toll to 1,89, 544.
