India logs 47,092 new COVID cases, 5,000 more than yesterday

India recorded 47,092 new COVID-19 cases and 509 deaths in the last 24 hours, said Union Health Ministry data released on Thursday. This takes India’s COVID tally to 3,28,57,937 total cases while the death toll is at 4,39,529.
The country now has 3,89,583 active COVID cases and has reported 3,20,28,825 total recoveries from the infection. As far as the vaccination is concerned, India has successfully administered 66,30,37,334 vaccination till now with the addition of 81,09,244 in the last 24 hours, reported Health Ministry.
Out of 47,092 new COVID19 cases and 509 deaths reported in India, the southern state of Kerala reported 32,803 fresh cases and 173 deaths.
Meanwhile, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Wednesday reviewed the conditions in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu as neighbouring state Kerala continues to report a surge in coronavirus cases.
The minister said that adequate measures would be taken to curb the spread and inter-state communication.
Kerala on Wednesday reported 32,803 of the total 41,965 new COVID cases recorded in India. The state also recorded 173 deaths which pushed Kerala’s total infection count to 40,90,036 and the fatalities to 20,961.
Health Ministry said the daily positivity rate now stands at 2.80% and the weekly positivity rate has been recorded at 2.62%. It has been below 3% for the last 69 days. As far as COVID testings go, India has successfully conducted 52.48 crore tests to check for COVID infection so far.
India’s COVID tally crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7 last year, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19 last year. India crossed two crore cases on May 4 and three crore cases on June 23.
