India records 62,714 new COVID-19 cases, highest single-day spike since Oct 15

India on Sunday recorded 62,714 new COVID-19 cases, taking the country’s infection tally to 1,19,71,624, according to the latest data by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

There are 4,86,310 active COVID-19 cases in the country, while 1,13,23762 have recovered.

In the last 15 days, India has witnessed a new surge of COVID-19 infections, with Maharashtra being the worst-hit. On Saturday, the state reported 35,726 new cases and 166 coronavirus-related deaths.

State capital Mumbai reported 6,130 new COVID-19 cases, highest single-day rise in the city since the pandemic began. The sharp rise in infections has prompted new measures in Mumbai, including a night curfew from Sunday.
