India reports 795 fresh COVID-19 cases, 58 deaths in last 24 hours
- Active cases dipped to 12,054 in India

India registered 795 cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday and added 58 fatalities to the death toll, according to media reports citing the Union Health Ministry.
With the new coronavirus infections reported in a day, India’s total tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 4,30,29,839, while the active cases dipped to 12,054, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday. The death toll climbed to 5,21,416 after adding the fresh fatalities, the data uploaded on the ministry’s website said.

The active cases comprise 0.03% of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate remained at 98.76%, the ministry said. A reduction of 543 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.
The daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.17% and the weekly positivity rate was at 0.22%, according to the ministry.
India has largely lifted all restrictions that were put in place as COVID-19 cases spiked in the country. International air travel also returned to normal late last month.
On the international front, an overall dip in COVID-19 cases has been observed. However, parts of China and Europe have reported new outbreaks. Beijing had to deploy military doctors to Shanghai to curb the spread of COVID-19 and assist in managing the outbreak.

Shanghai was conducting mass testing of its 25 million residents Monday as what was announced as a two-phase lockdown entered its second week. Most of eastern Shanghai, which was supposed to re-open last Friday, remained locked down along with the western half of the city, according to reports from Associated Press.
China on Monday reported more than 13,000 new cases nationwide in the previous 24 hours, of which nearly 12,000 were asymptomatic. About 9,000 of the cases were in Shanghai. The other large outbreak is in northeastern China’s Jilin province, where new cases topped 3,500.
