India successfully test fires surface-to-surface BrahMos missile

India successfully test-fired another surface to surface BrahMos
missile from Andman &Nicobar Islands on Wednesday, ANI reported.

“The test firing of the surface-to-surface variant of the
BrahMos supersonic cruise missile with a strike range of 300 Km was successful.
The Indian Air Force has both land and air-launched versions of the missile,”
ANI tweeted on Wednesday.

A similar test was conducted on Tuesday, in which a BrahMos
was test fired successfully travelling at a speed of 2.8 mach, which is about
three-times the speed of sound.

BrahMos is developed jointly by NPOM of Russia and India’s
DRDO. It exists in variants that can be fired from submarine, ships, air, and
surface.  

“In the last two-and-half months, India has test fired a
number of missiles including an anti-radiation missile named Rudram-1 which is
planned to be inducted into service by 2022,” The Hindu reported.

Similarly on October 18, a BrahMos missile was successfully
test fired from an indigenously-built stealth destroyer of the Indian Navy in
the Arabian Sea.

India has deployed a number of BrahMos at strategic locations
along Line of Actual Control in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh. The Indian Air Force
has also equipped a number of its Sukhois with the BrahMos missile.
