Krishnam Raju, the veteran Tollywood actor-turned-politician, passed away on Sunday, September 11, from post-COVID complications. Reactions have poured in on social media, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and others mourning the death of Telugu cinema’s Rebel Star.

Raju was 83 at the time of his death. He was born on January 20 in the year 1940. The former BJP Lok Sabha member’s father’s name was Uppalapati Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Raju.

The Nenante Nene actor has a brother, Uppalapati Surya Narayana Raju. His first wife was called Seeta Devi. Raju later married Syamaladevi in 1996 after his first wife passed away. Raju and Syamaladevi have three children, Sai Praseedha, Sai Pradeepti, and Sai Prakeerti.

Raju began his film career in the film Chinaka Gorinka in 1966. He went on to act in around 180 throughout the span of his career. He received three Filmfare South Best Actor Awards for his performances, as well as three Nandi Awards.
