Ladakh tableau features in Republic Day parade for first time
- Tableau from Ladakh depicted the Thiksey Monastery
- It also depicted the Indian Astronomical Observatory, located at Hanle, Leh
- Ladakh was a part of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir and was made a UT on August 5, 2019
In first, the tableau from Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh featured in the Republic Day parade at Rajpath on Tuesday. The tableau depicted the Thiksey Monastery, one of the most visited tourist sites in the region, ANI reported. The monastery is located atop a hill in Thikse in Leh district.

The tableau also depicted the Indian Astronomical Observatory, which is located in Hanle near Leh. The observatory has one of the world’s highest located sites for telescopes.
Till August 2019, Ladakh was part of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. On August 5, 2019, the Centre abrogated Article 370 of the Indian Constitution that accorded special status to J&K and bifurcated it to two UTs.
India is celebrating its 72nd Republic Day on Tuesday.
