A most-wanted Khalistani terrorist with a bounty of Rs five lakh ($6,000) was arrested from the Delhi airport, a National Investigation Agency (NIA) official said Monday.

Kulwinderjit Singh, who also goes by the name “Khanpuria”, had been associated with terrorist outfits like the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and the Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF). He was taken into custody from the Indira Gandhi International Airport Friday soon after his arrival from Bangkok, Thailand, the official said.

Kulwinderjit Singh has been wanted in connection with many terrorist cases, including a conspiracy to carry out targeted killings in Punjab. According to officials, he has been on the run since 2019. 

Following his disappearance, the NIA declared a cash reward of Rs five lakh for information leading to his arrest.

According to ANI, he was also involved in a bomb blast case in Connaught Place, New Delhi. In the 90s, he allegedly carried out grenade attacks in other states.

The NIA also said that Khanpuria targeted senior officers of Bhakra Beas Management Board, Chandigarh, aimed at creating terror in Punjab.

“Khanpuria has also carried out reconnaissance of some of the targets,” according to NIA.
