Ladakhs largest solar project constructed in Leh

The largest solar power project has been set up in the Union territory as part of the Centre’s ‘Make
in India’ initiative. The project will provide sustainable energy as an
alternative to fossil fuel and traditional methods of energy and will be set up in
Leh’s IAF station.

‘Provision of Solar Photo
Voltaic Powerplant 1.5 MW’ – as the project has been named, has been completed
within 12 months and well ahead of the deadline on March 31, 2021, PTI quoted a defence spokesperson as saying.

“The largest solar project at a
high altitude in the entire Leh in the Union territory of Ladakh has been established
at IAF Station Leh,” he further said.

Conceptualised under Make in India,
the project is the largest installed solar project till date out of the 300-Megawatt
target in three phases for defense sectors and 14 MW for Leh to be developed
under the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

The Rs 122 crore-project was inaugurated
by Air Marshall RV Chaudhari, the Commander-in-chief of the Western Air Command,
the spokesperson also mentioned.
