The Indian Air Force is celebrating its 90th anniversary on Saturday, October 8. The celebrations in Chandigarh include an hour-long air display over Sukhna Lake with up to 80 flights. The theme of Indian Air Force Day 2022 is IAF: Transforming for the Future.

Here’s a list of all the aircraft’s that are being displayed:

-Mi 17’s fire fighting drill 

The Mi 17 helicopters performed a firefighting demonstration using a ‘bambi bucket.’

-Mi 17 Chopper halo hasting performance

-The Chinooks 

The Bhim formation was performed by US-made Chinook helicopters, which are used to transport troops, artillery, and other equipment.  A Chinook Helicopter was also carrying underslung at the aerial show at Sukhna Lake.

-Air Force Day celebrations

Choppers flew over the national flag as part of the IAF’s 90th-anniversary celebrations.

-Lightweight Fighter Aircraft Tejas 

The lightweight fighter aircraft Tejas performed a fly-past over the air force station in Chandigarh.

-Apache Chopper lead Eklavya Formation

An Eklavya formation was led by Mi35 helicopters and flanked by Apache and indigenous Dhruv ALHs (Advanced Light Helicopter)

-Heritage Dakota Aircraft

Heritage Dakota is a major transport aircraft

-IAF’s Lockheed Martin IL-76 Aircraft

A Lockheed Martin IL-76 and two An-32 aircraft lead the Big Boy formation. Wg Cdr Jay Singh leads the formation. Both planes are based in Chandigarh.

Bajrang Formation Led by C130J Super Hercules Aircraft

The IAF’s Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules led the Bajrang formation, which included four Sukhoi Su-30MKIs, at the aerial show at Sukhna Lake to commemorate the IAF’s 90th anniversary.

Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) are performing during  IAF’s at Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh.

President Draupadi Murmu is the chief guest, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will also be present at the event. The ceremony began at 9 a.m. at the Chandigarh air base with a speech by the IAF Chief and the unveiling of the new combat uniform.

Air Force Day commemorates the official induction of the Indian Air Force as a supporting force of the Royal Air Force of the United Kingdom in 1932. Every year, the day is celebrated in the presence of the chief of the Indian Air Force and senior officers.
