Less than 50,000 cases recorded per day since November 8: Health Ministry

The Union Health Ministry on Monday said that India has been registering less than 50,000 COVID-19 cases daily since November 8, highlighting India’s current status in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic, as countries across the world are witnessing a sharp spike in coronavirus infections.

Since the inception of the pandemic, 85,62,641 people who contracted the disease recovered and the total number of active cases in the country now stand at 443,486.

A total of 44,059 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in the country in the 24 hours since Sunday with 10 states and Union Territories contributing to 78.74% of the new infections.

The capital city of Delhi recorded 6,746 cases in a day with Maharashtra recording 5,753 cases, while Kerala reported 5,254 cases.

511 deaths due to COVID-19 were reported in the last 24 hours, 74.95% of which were concentrated in ten states and Union Territories.

While Delhi reported 121 deaths in the last 24 hours, Maharashtra recorded 50 deaths with West Bengal following closely with 49 new fatalities.

The ministry further said, “India has been registering less than 50,000 cases for the last 16 days since November 8. This assumes significance as several countries of the Western Hemisphere are witnessing a huge surge of new cases at the onset of winter.”

India’s current active cases of 4,43,486 cases constitute just 4.85% of the total cases it has recorded since the first case of COVID-19 was reported in India.

The national COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 93.68% with 41,024 new recoveries being registered in a day.

The gap between recovered cases and active cases is steadily increasing and presently stands at 81,19,155,” the ministry said.
