Maharashtra CM announces curfew for 15 days, starting 8PM on April 14

  • Section 144 will be imposed across Maharashtra from April 14
  • Maharahstra CM Uddhav Thackeray said that he would not term this as lockdown
  • Maharashtra on Monday recorded 60,212 new COVID-19 cases

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday said that a statewide curfew would be imposed in Maharashtra for 15 days from April 14. “We are imposing strict restrictions which will come into effect from 8 pm tomorrow. Section 144 to be imposed in the entire state from tomorrow. I will not term this as lockdown,” Uddhav said. 

All places of worship, schools and colleges, private coaching classes, barbershops, spas, salons and beauty parlous will remain closed from 8pm on April 14 till 7am on May 1.

Maharashtra on Tuesday recorded 60,212 new COVID-19 cases. Mumbai alone accounted for 5,35,264 new COVID-19 cases, followed by Thane, which saw 4,20,322 cases being added to its tally, as well as Palghar (64,820) in the third position.

“We are continuously upgrading our healthcare infrastructure but they are under pressure. There is a shortage of medical oxygen, beds and the demand for Remdesivir has also increased,” Uddhav said.

Earlier on April 9, weekend lockdowns as well as night curfews had been imposed across the state.
