Minister Anil Deshmukh receives threat call over controversy with Kangana Ranaut

Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has received threat calls over his stance on the ongoing controversy involving actor Kangana Ranaut, reported PTI quoting sources.

 Deshmukh’s Nagpur office had received a threat call from an anonymous caller on Wednesday. The caller had issued a warning to Deshmukh and also to Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray also received threat call at his Banda residence ‘Matoshree’ on September 6. 

Anil Deshmukh, the Cabinet Minister from the Nationalist Congress Party, had criticised the actor for defaming Mumbai Police and had said “She (Kangana Ranaut) has no right to live in Maharashtra or Mumbai.”

Obliquely retaliating to Ranaut’s statement of being afraid of the Mumbai Police, the NCP leader compared them with the Scotland Yard and had said “Some people are trying to target Mumbai Police. An IPS officer has gone to court against this. After, her (Kangana Ranaut’s) comparison of Mumbai Police.”

The ensuing conflict between Kangana Ranaut and politicians from the governing coalition in Maharashtra started after the actor compared Mumbai with Pakistan occupied Kashmir. 

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut had also retaliated to Kangana Ranaut’s comments on Mumbai and had said that the actor was insulting Maharashtra. He had also asked Ranaut “not to come back to Mumbai.” The actor referred to it as an “open threat” by the politician.

The Bollywood actor, who has starred in numerous box office hits like ‘Queen’, ‘Manikarnika’, ‘Tanu Weds Manu’, is scheduled to return to her Mumbai residence on Wednesday.
