Mulayam Singh Yadav, the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, is still in critical condition and remains admitted in the ICU of a Gurgaon-based hospital. A statement released by the hospital authorities on Thursday, October 6, said that the 82-year-old founder of the Samajwadi Party is on life-saving drugs and is still being treated by a “comprehensive team of specialists”.

The veteran politician has been admitted at the Medanta hospital in Gurgaon, Delhi NCR, since August 22. According to a Press Trust of India report, he is undergoing treatment under a team led by oncologists Dr Nitin Sood and Dr Sushil Kataria.

On October 2, it was reported that Mulayam Singh was shifted to the Critical Care Unit after his condition significantly worsened.

The PTI had reported on Monday that Samajwadi Party workers across UP organised special prayers in temples across the state to pray for the long life of their party’s founder.

The Lucknow unit of the Samajwadi party had asked workers to not visit “netaji”, as Mulayam Singh is fondly called by his party workers, as he is in the critical care unit.

“Meeting ‘netaji’ and entering the hospital is not possible. It’s a humble request not to reach there. You will be updated about netaji’s health from time to time,” the party said on social media.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who hails from UP and also served as the state’s Chief Minister before, called Mulayam’s son the Samajwadi party chief Akhilesh Yadav to enquire about Mulayam’s health.

Singh wrote on Twitter, “On getting information about the ill health of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, I talked to his son Akhilesh Yadav over phone and inquired about his well-being. I pray to god that he gets well soon.”
