Aftab Amin Poonawala, the 28-year-old accused of murdering his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar, admitted at a Delhi court that he had indeed killed her “in the heat of the moment.” Poonawala said the things said about him are not entirely true. Aftab says he has been cooperating with the police, and has also given maps of the location where he dumped the body parts.

Poonawala further said that he will provide all details but is unable to recall a number of things since it has been too long. On Tuesday, the Saket court hearing the Shraddha Walkar murder case extended Poonawala’s custody for five more days after his five-day custody expired on Tuesday.

However, later in the day, Aftab’s lawyer told a New Delhi-based news organisation that the accused has not confessed to the crime in court. “He is cooperating with the Delhi Police but has not confessed in court. He has not confessed that he murdered Shraddha,” the defense lawyer said.

Aftab Poonawala is alleged to have murdered his girlfriend and live-in partner Shraddha Walkar on May 18 this year. It is alleged that Poonawala, after strangling Walkar to death, cut her body up in pieces, stored them in a fridge and disposed of them all around Delhi.

During interrogation, Aftab told the police that he had thrown the saw and blade he had used to chop off Shraddha’s body in the bushes of DLF Phase 3, Gurugram, Delhi, according to the police. A Delhi Police team has checked the bushes twice.

Poonawala also told the police that he threw the meat cleaver in a dustbin at the 100-foot road in South Delhi’s Mehrauli area, NDTV reported citing sources.

On the first day of investigation on Friday, the Delhi Police said they collected evidence from the bushes in Gurugram which were subsequently sent for investigation at the Central Forensic Science Laboratory. Last Saturday, the police searched Gurugram with metal detectors but failed to find anything related to the case.

Police also took Aftab to the shop from where he had procured the saw blade, located 250 meters from his house.
