Massive tremors were felt in Delhi NCR region and other parts of North India with a 7.7 magnitude on March 21, 2023. The epicenter of the earthquake is reportedly Afghanistan and Pakistan. The epicenter is believed to be 90 km from Kalafgan in Afghanistan.

Strong earthquake tremors were felt in northern India including the Delhi-NCR region. An earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale hit countries including Turkmenistan, India, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, China, Afghanistan, and Kyrgyzstan.

For the past few months, tremors have struck both Delhi and Nepal.

As the earthquake tremors persisted for several seconds in the northern Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Punjab, people fled their homes.

According to ANI, the Delhi Fire Services reported that they had gotten a call about a building that was tilting in the Shakarpur neighborhood.

A resident of Noida claimed he first observed the dining room table trembling. “We soon noticed that the spectators were trembling as well. The resident of Noida’s Hyde Park Society told PTI that the earthquake was powerful in terms of intensity and persisted for a long time.

“As we know that the Indo Australian plate is colliding with the Eurasian plate and this release happened in that region. The HKH region is very active seismologically. The reason why people in northwest India and Delhi felt is for relatively longer time is because of the depth. The depth of the fault is over 150 km so first primary waves were felt and then secondary waves. Aftershocks are likely now but they can’t be Forecast”, Director of the National Center for Seismology and Scientist said.

In India, tremors were reported from several regions like Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, etc. and the geological experts have claimed that the earthquake occurred as the Indo-Australian plate collided with the Eurasian plate.
