Mumbai logs under 10,000 new COVID-19 cases, over 47,000 new infections in Maharashtra

  • Mumbai reported 9,857 new COVID infections and 21 deaths
  • This comes a day after Mumbai saw the highest surge in infection since the pandemic began

After consecutively breaching its highest daily COVID-19 cases mark for days, Mumbai recorded less than 10,000 coronavirus cases on Monday.
The city reported 9,857 new infections and 21 deaths due to COVID-19, PTI
reported quoting Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

According to the BMC’s updated data, the total active COVID-19
cases to in Mumbai are 4,62,302, while the death toll jumped to 11,797.

This comes a day
after the financial capital saw the highest surge in infection since the
pandemic began. Mumbai recorded 11,163 new COVID-19 cases and 25 deaths on
Sunday.

As far as the number of patients discharged from the hospital goes, the Monday record was 3,357 that took the tally of total recoveries to 3,74,985.

Presently, the city has 70 active containment zones in slums and ‘chawls’ making it harder for the virus to be contained.

The overall Maharashtra COVID-19 scenario still seems gloomy with 47,288 new COVID-19 cases, 26,252 recoveries and 155 deaths.

The state still remains one of the biggest contributors of COVID infections in the country in view of which chief minister Uddhav Thackeray announced a weekend lockdown and night curfew.

The Prime minister’s office has also ascertained that special COVID response teams will be sent to the worst affected states including Maharashtra to help the state in containing the outbreak.
