Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief, Sharad Pawar, has been admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai after deterioration of his health. According to the party, Pawar is expected to be released from the hospital on Wednesday. The exact nature of the ailment the veteran politician is suffering from has not been revealed yet.

NCP’s general secretary Shivajirao Garje said that Pawar is expected to attend a party meeting on November 3 after getting discharged from the hospital.

On April 11, 2021, Pawar, 81, was hospitalised to undergo a gall bladder operation. The very next month, the former Chief Minister of Maharashtra found himself in the hospital once again, this time to remove a gallstone from his bile duct.

“He will remain in the hospital for three days and is expected to be discharged on November 2. He will attend the party’s two-day meeting scheduled to begin on November 3,” Garje said. The functionary appealed to party leaders and workers not to gather at the hospital.

Besides the meeting on November 3, Pawar is expected to attend Congress’ Bharat Jodo Yatra on November 8. The Yatra will enter the state of Maharashtra through Nanded.

Pawar, who served in the Manmohan Singh cabinet, had earlier said that Congress leaders Ashok Chavan and Balasaheb Thorat had invited him to be a part of the Yatra that is being led by former Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

On October 23, the former International Cricket Council (ICC) president said, “NCP and other political parties will also join ranks with the Congress initiative in the state wherever possible,” when talking about the Bharat Jodo Yatra. According to him, the yatra will help unify Indian society and also dispel hate in the country.
