No audience, just 6 venues: BCCI on COVID-19 measures undertaken during IPL

The Board of Control for
Cricket in India (BCCI) vice president Rajeev Shukla on Sunday gave a
statement on the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL). With the
tournament scheduled to begin on April 9, there were concerns raised about the rising
coronavirus cases and the prevention measures taken for the precaution of the
players.

BCCI said it has taken all the methods of
prevention and is ready for the 14th season of the Indian
Premier League. They have selected only six venues for the upcoming tournament Narendra Modi Stadium (Ahmedabad), Arun Jaitley Stadium (Delhi), Eden
Gardens Stadium (Kolkata), Wankhede Stadium (Mumbai), M.A Chidambaram Stadium (Chennai), and M. Chinnaswamy
Stadium (Bengaluru).

The number of squad members have been increased for
mobility and a bio-bubble has been created for the players taking part in the
tournament. BCCI also said that the tournament will take place without the
presence of audience as a safety measure to prevent the further spread of the corona virus.

The IPL tournament will
kick off with its first match on April 9 at 7.30 pm IST where
Mumbai Indians (MI) will clash with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The match will be played at MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chennai).
IPL will be broadcasted live on the Star Sports Network and it can be watched
online on Disney + Hotstar.
