Nobel Prizes are awarded in the fields of physics, chemistry, physiology/medicine, peace, literature, and economics. The Nobel Prize was instituted in the memory of Sir Alfred Nobel in the year 1895. 

From 1901 to 2021, the Nobel Prizes and the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel were awarded 609 times to 975 people and institutions. Below, you can view the full list of Nobel Prizes and Nobel Prize laureates.

The Nobel Prize in Physics 2021

Manabe and Klaus
Hasselmann have been awarded “for groundbreaking contributions to
our understanding of complex systems”.

Syukuro Manabe and Klaus Hasselmann have been awarded for the physical modeling of Earth’s climate, quantifying variability, and reliably predicting global warming.

Giorgio Parisi “for the discovery of the interplay of disorder and fluctuations in physical systems from atomic to planetary scales”.

Giorgio Parisi is an Italian physicist. He has research works on quantum field theory, statistical mechanics, and complex systems.

Syukuro Manabe is a meteorologist and climatologist. He worked on the use of computers to simulate global climate change and natural climate variations.

Klaus Ferdinand Hasselmann is a renowned German oceanographer and climate modeler.

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2021

Benjamin List and David MacMillan have been awarded for the development of asymmetric organocatalysis.

Benjamin List is a German Chemist. He co-developed organocatalysis, a method of accelerating chemical reactions and making them more efficient.

David MacMillan is a Scottish chemist and professor of Chemistry at Princeton University.

The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2021

David Julius and Ardem Patapoutian “for their discoveries of receptors for temperature and touch”

David Julius an American physiologist is known for his work on molecular mechanisms of pain sensation and heat, including the characterization of the TRPV1 and TRPM8 receptors that detect capsaicin, menthol, and temperature.

Ardem Patapoutian is a molecular, biologist and neuroscientist. He is known for his work in characterizing the PIEZO1, PIEZO2, and TRPM8 receptors that detect pressure, menthol, and temperature.

The Nobel Prize in Literature 2021

Abdulrazak Gurnah “for his uncompromising and compassionate penetration of the effects of colonialism and the fate of the refugee in the gulf between cultures and continents”

Abdulrazak Gurnah 72, is a UK-based novelist and academic. His novel Paradise (1994) was shortlisted for the Booker and Whitbread prize. By the Sea (2001) was longlisted for the Booker and shortlisted for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize.

The Nobel Peace Prize 2021

Maria Ressa and Dmitry Muratov “for their efforts to safeguard freedom of expression, which is a precondition for democracy and lasting peace”

Maria Angelita Ressa 58, is the first Filipino Nobel Prize laureate. She is a Filipino American journalist and author.

Dmitry Andreyevich Muratov 59, is a Russian journalist and television presenter. He is editor-in-chief of the Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta.

Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2021

David Card “for his empirical contributions to labor economics”

Joshua D. Angrist and Guido W. Imbens “for their methodological contributions to the analysis of causal relationships”

David Edward Card 65, is a Canadian economist and professor of economics at the University of California. He is known for his works in the field of Labour Economics.

Israeli American Economist Joshua Angrist 61, is a professor of economics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Guido Imbens 58, specializes in econometrics and has taught at Harvard University, UCLA, and UC Berkeley.
