Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on
Saturday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the latter wishes to ‘hand
over’ the entire agricultural sector of the country to his ‘two friends’, while
addressing a crowd at Rajasthan’s Rupangarh. He also said that 40% of the
country’s population was a stakeholder to the occupational practice of farming,
adding that the profession involved people such as small and medium businessman,
traders and labourers as well, PTI reported.

Wearing ‘safa’, the Rajasthani
headgear, Gandhi drove a tractor to the rally alongside Rajasthan Chief
Minister Ashok Gehlot and the Chief to the stat unit, Ashok Singh Dotasra.

“It is the business of 40 per
cent people, which includes farmers, small and medium businessmen, traders and
labourers. Narendra Modi wants to give this entire business to his two friends.
This is the objective of the farm laws. Narendra Modi said he is giving options
but the options are: hunger, unemployment and suicide”, the Congress leader was
quoted by PTI as saying.

The former Congress President visibly
aimed at showmanship, as he spoke on a platform that was put together by two
tractor trailers, while his audience sat or stood around him on tractors themselves.

Gandhi, in another rally later on in
Nagaur, said the nation’s backbone was being broken, asserting that the process
started with demonetisation.

“Farmers, labourers, traders are
being sidelined and the path is being cleared for two-three businessmen. During
the coronavirus lockdown, labourers requested the prime minister to give them
tickets to go home but he did not yield to it and waived loans of Rs 1.5 lakh
crore of the rich,” he said.
