Juhi Chawla, a Bollywood actor and an environmental activist, filed a petition in Delhi High Court against the implementation of the fifth-generation technology or what we commonly call 5G ahead of its rollout citing concerns about its ‘extremely harmful’ impacts on human health and safety.

Adding that she was not against the implementation of technological advancements, Chawla stated that the radiation emitted by the 5G technology would be harmful and injurious to the health and safety of the people.

The chaotic hearing

The court scheduled a hearing on the case against the implementation of 5G technology filed by Juhi Chawla on Wednesday. The hearing was briefly interrupted when songs from her film echoed during the virtual hearing. The intruder continued singing until the judge ordered his removal. The man, however, managed to rejoin and continued singing.

Dismissal

Delhi High Court on Friday dismissed Juhi Chawla’s lawsuit, saying that the plea was defective and filed for publicity. Following the dismissal, the court criticised the petitioners for stuffing unwanted material without having sufficient knowledge about the issue.

According to ANI, the High Court judge said, “Plaintiff has no personal knowledge of the plaint. I am surprised…”. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20 lakhs.

Social media circulation of the hearing link

Juhi Chawla shared the link of the hearing, which was to take place via video conferencing, on social media. The link was widely circulated amongst his fans and was reportedly behind the ruckus created by his fans during the hearing.

The court said the suit was filed to gain publicity which was clear as Chawla circulated the video conferencing link of the hearing on her social media account which resulted in repeated interruptions by unknown persons.
