Apart from around 100 MPs of the Congress, leaders of several opposition parties including Trinamool Congress, NCP, Shiv Sena, CPI-M, CPI, RJD and Samajwadi Party attended the breakfast meeting.
Leaders of JMM, JKNC besides IUML, RSP, KCM and RSP were also present at the meeting. Trinamool Congress, which had skipped the last meeting of Opposition leaders by Gandhi, was also present at today’s breakfast meet, reports PTI.
The meeting and the march comes at a time when the Opposition has been demanding a discussion in Parliament on the Pegasus row and many leaders have given adjournment notices. They want Home Minister Amit Shah to reply to the discussion. While the Opposition wants a proper Parliamnet debate, the government doesn’t seem to be willing .
To break the Parliament logjam, the government picked Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to reach out to Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge. But there seems to be no headway on the issue yet.
On July 26, Gandhi drove a tractor to Parliament. The 51-year-old former Congress president had said that he had brought ‘farmers’ message to Parliament”. “I have brought farmers’ message to Parliament. They (government) are suppressing voices of farmers and not letting a discussion take place in Parliament. They’ll have to repeal these black laws. The entire country knows these laws favour 2-3 big businessmen,” the Congress leader said.
