Shafali Verma, 17, becomes youngest Indian cricketer to play all formats

Opener Shafali Verma on Sunday made her ODI debut as India took on England at Bristol. In doing so, Verma became the youngest Indian cricketer to make a debut in all formats. At 17 years and 150 days, Verma is the fifth-youngest cricketer and third-youngest among women to make her debut in the three formats – ODI, T20 and Test cricket.

Verma scored 15 runs in 14 balls on her ODI debut before English pacer Katherine Brunt dismissed her. 

Shafali Verma was handed her ODI cap by skipper Mithali Raj. She made her T20 debut in 2019 and her Test debut came this month.

The youngest player to debut in all formats in Afghanistan’s Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who achieved this feat at 17 years and 78 days. Former England women’s team wicketkeeper Sarah Taylor was the youngest when in comes to women’s cricket.

India face England in a three-match ODI series.
