Little more than a month after she was appointed the Home Secretary, Suella Braverman has resigned from job, reports in the United Kingdom are suggesting. Braverman, an Indian-origin MP in Prime Minister Liz Truss’s cabinet, was one of the opponents of the current PM in the Conservative Party leadership election before losing out.

However, Suella Braverman’s exit comes as another shock to PM Liz Truss, who is already finding herself in a crisis a little more than a month into her new role. According to some reports, Braverman was sacked from her role as the interior minister.

The move marks the second exit by a senior minister of the Truss cabinet since the sacking of finance minister Kwasi Kwarteng last Friday, October 14. Meanwhile, the Guardian has reported that Braverman’s exit has been “at the behest” of Jeremy Hunt, who replaced Kwasi Kwarteng in the cabinet a few days ago.

Grant Shapps, who was previously the transport minister for Boris Johnson, is expected to replace Suella Braverman as the new home secretary. However, an official confirmation from Downing Street or the Home Office is yet to be made.

After she was knocked out of the Conservative Party leadership election, Suella Braverman became one of the supporters for Rishi Sunak, another Indian-origin politician who challenged Liz Truss for the role of Prime Minister. As PM Truss faces a crisis currently, Rishi Sunak has once again come up as one of the probable candidates to replace her.

PM Liz Truss has been facing a crisis since her finance minister Kwasi Kwarteng came up with a mini-budget that sent the UK market into a freefall. However, the PM made a U-turn recently, taking back the majority of the mini budget presented by Kwarteng, after he was sacked and replaced by Jeremy Hunt.

It is being reported that Suella Braverman’s exit has been “at the behest” of Hunt, who has been working actively to stop the market from bleeding more. Meanwhile, PM Truss has also made an apology for going “too far and too fast” in connection with the economic policies and has taken all responsibilities.
