Sundar Pichai and Satya Nadella react to Jeff Bezos stepping down as Amazon CEO

Jeff Bezos, who is the CEO of Amazon, has confirmed that he will step aside as the Chief Executive Officer of the company in the third quarter, passing over the role to Andy Jassy, who heads Amazon Web Services.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai congratulated Jeff Bezos and his replacement Andy Jassy on their new positions on Wednesday, after the Amazon founder confirmed his decision to step aside later this year as CEO of the company.

Pichai also sent his greetings for two of the passionate ventures of the outgoing Amazon CEO – the Day 1 Fund and the Bezos Earth Fund.

In a letter to Amazon employees, Jeff Bezos said he would “stay involved in important Amazon initiatives” but would be pivotal to philanthropy initiatives, including the Day One Fund and the Bezos Earth Fund, and other business ventures in space exploration and journalism.

Top executives and leading figures from other major companies all over the world have sent their congratulations to Bezos and Jassy via Twitter.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, noting Mr Jassy’s accomplishments, said, “a well-deserved recognition of what you have accomplished”.

Bezos,57, founded Amazon in his garage in 1994 and proceeded to flourish into a colossus that rules online retail, with operations in streaming music and television, groceries, cloud computing, robotics, AI and more.

Mr. Jassy entered Amazon as marketing manager in 1997 and in 2003 he established AWS, the cloud computing division of the company, which has been one of the most successful but least-known units of Amazon.
