Tamil Nadu polls: Dindigul constituency picked AIADMK’s candidate in 2016

The Dindigul constituency is currently being held by AIADMK
MLA Sreenivasan C who defeated Basheer Ahamed M of the DMK in 2016. The seat,
one of Tamil Nadu’s 234 assembly constituencies, falls under the Dindigul Lok
Sabha constituency.

The Dindigul Lok Sabha seat is currently held by DMK MP P
Velusamy, defeating K Jothimuthu of the PMK in the 2019 General Elections.

As an assembly constituency, Dindigul has seen both AIADMK and
CPI(M) winning the seat multiple times over the years. Prior to 1971, as a
constituency under the Madras state, Dindigul saw Congress win three times
consequently, followed by a term of CPI(M) rule. Post-1971, the seat has been
won three times by the ADMK (including the 2016 state election) and three times
