Trivendra Singh Rawat resigns as Uttarakhand chief minister

Trivendra Singh Rawat on Tuesday resigned from the post of Uttarakhand chief minister after a meeting with Governor Baby Rani Maurya at Raj Bhawan, reported PTI.

Rawat told ANI, “The party gave me a golden opportunity to serve this State for four years. I had never thought that I would get such an opportunity. The party has now decided that the opportunity to serve as CM should be given to someone else now.”

Rawat added, “I have submitted my resignation as the CM to the Governor today. BJP legislature party meeting is scheduled to be held at 10 am tomorrow at the party office.”

Earlier, Uttarakhand BJP MLA Munna Singh Chauhan told ANI, “The chief minister is consulting with the party leadership on the recent developments. He met many senior leaders including the party chief in Delhi yesterday. He has received a phone call from the party chief.”

Rawat was elected from Doiwala in the Uttarakhand’s first legislative assembly elections in 2002. He served as the State’s Minister of Agriculture after retaining his seat in the 2007 elections.

He won from Doiwala again in 2017, and was named the chief minister after BJP won the majority.
