Virat Kohli scripted yet another batting record on Wednesday, November 2, when he became the highest scorer in the history of the T20 World Cup. The Indian maverick surpassed former Sri Lanka star Mahela Jayawardene’s record of 1,016 runs against Bangladesh and became the new highest scorer in the tournament’s history.
The 33-year-old was playing against Bangladesh in India’s fourth T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 match at Adelaide Oval on Wednesday when he achieved the feat. Kohli came to the crease when captain Rohit Sharma was dismissed for two runs off eight balls. At the time, he needed only 16 runs to surpass Jayawardene’s record, which he did with ease against the Bangladeshi attack.

At the time of writing this article, Kohli scored 28 runs off 24 balls against Bangladesh, with a strike rate of 120.83. He has also scored four boundaries so far in the match.
Kohli has been one of the most impressive Indian players in the 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup, having scored an undefeated 82 runs against arch-rivals Pakistan and another undefeated 62 runs against the Netherlands. While he could only score 12 runs against South Africa, he remained one of the leaders on the pitch.
The 33-year-old recently returned from his long slump during the Asia Cup 2022. Since then, he has scored four half-centuries against the likes of Australia, New Zealand and Pakistan.

The former Indian captain made his T20I debut for India against Zimbabwe in Harare on June 12, 2010. He has since represented India in 112 matches and has scored 3,868 runs so far. He has also registered numerous batting records and is regarded as one of the best batters in the world currently.
Kohli is also the highest run-scorer in the history of the shortest format of the game with 3,868 runs. He has also scored 36 half-centuries in his T20I career so far, the most by any cricketer in the history of the game. He also holds the record for the highest batting average in T20I cricket (52.27).
