Jos Buttler, the captain of England, executed a deft glove move to dismiss Indian batsman Dinesh Karthik in the second Twenty20 International on Saturday at Edgbaston, Birmingham (July 9). After England won the toss and requested that India bat first, Karthik (12 off 17) became the sixth wicket to go in the Indian innings at 122.

After debutant Gleeson ripped through Indian top order, Karthik and Ravindra Jadeja held on for a few overs to give India dressing room a much-needed relief. The stand, though, was ended in the 16th over when Buttler’s excellent glovework caught a diving Dinesh Karthik well short of his crease.

After losing the toss, the Indian batsmen came to the crease with an intent of scoring quick run. That intent was further made clear by Rohit‘s slam-bang strategy in the batting powerplay. Although he was unable to capitalise on his success, the Indian dressing room was not really concerned as Kohli was the next bat in. However, he too returned pavilion early to Gleeson’s back of a length delivery. The next delivery, Rishabh Pant, followed suit, and all three fell to the outstanding debutant. Chris Jordan’s two strikes further hurt the Indians despite Suryakumar and Hardik‘s brief alliance. With the help of the other hitters and some clutch runs from Ravindra Jadeja, India was able to reach 170, a total they would be confident in holding.

To much dismay of the hosts, English batter got off to a horror start. India’s premier seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar started with a beautiful wicket maiden. But, what happened in the next saw the hosts sweating as Bumrah sent back in form skipper Jos Buttler with a caught behind. Although given Not out at first, India reviewed the decision and were rewarded handsomely. The rest of the batting line up followed as the hosts were reduced to 88/6 after 14 overs.
