Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said on Monday that following discussions with the Left Front, it has been decided that Congress will contest 92 seats in the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, reported ANI.

Chowdhury said, “As per discussions held with left so far, 92 seats have been finalised for Congress to contest the upcoming West Bengal Assembly election. The list of candidates for these seats will be announced in two days.”

According to Chowdhury, Congress had initially demanded 130 seats but decided against it in order to keep the gap for other parties.

He said, “We demanded 130 seats in the beginning, Left Front might have accommodated us with more seats but we had to keep the gap for other parties such as RJD and NCP.”

He added, “Now we don’t have to share seats with RJD and NCP but our offer is open for others.”

Following the meeting on Monday, Left Front Chairman Biman Bose said, “After today’s discussions with Congress, we felt that there won’t be any problem now. We want to proceed further with the alliance.”

Chowdhury had earlier, during the mega rally in Kolkata’s Brigade parade grounds on Sunday, said that the opposition ‘grand alliance’ will win the upcoming assembly elections.
