West Bengal extends lockdown till May 30, Chhattisgarh’s Raipur till May 31

In the wake of COVID surge, Mamata Banerjee-led government has extended complete lockdown in West Bengal till May 30. The move came after the state witnessed highest one-day spike of over 20,000 COVID cases on Friday. 

On Friday, 136 deaths were reported in the state, including five senior doctors, the state health bulletin said.

West Bengal chief secretary Alapan Bandhopadhyay said, “All offices, including government and private to remain closed except emergency services from tomorrow. Intra state bus services, metro, ferry service, gyms, cinema halls, salons, swimming pools to remain closed. Retail shops to be open from 7-10 am.”

Bandhopadhyay added, “Academic, cultural, administrative, political and religious gathering remain prohibited. No more than 50 people allowed in wedding functions. Movement of private vehicles, taxi, auto to be suspended from tomorrow till May 30. Schools to remain closed.”

The Bhupesh Baghel-led Chhattisgarh government also called for an extension in the ongoing lockdown in the state’s capital Raipur till May 31, reports ANI. The government said that the new restrictions will come under certain conditions.
