The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has postponed the release of its election manifesto that was scheduled for Thursday after West Bengal Chief Minister and party supremo Mamata Banerjee was injured in Nandigram. Banerjee was set to release the manifesto in Kalighat but was instead taken to Kolkata for treatment.

Hours after filing her nomination to contest the upcoming Assembly polls from Nandigram, Banerjee was injured in what she claimed was an attack by “four-five men”, reported news agency PTI.

The incident happened around 6.15 pm on Wednesday when Banerjee was about to leave the Birulia area near Reyapara after praying at a local temple.

“I was standing outside my car with the door open. I was praying from there on seeing a temple. Few people came around my car and pushed the door. The door hit my leg,” she said.

She told reporters, “See how it has swollen,” pointing towards her left leg, reported PTI.

The CM alleged conspiracy and said, “Some people deliberately did it.”

She was taken to Kolkata’s SSKM Hospital for treatment, before being taken to the Bangur Institute of Neurology.

It isn’t known when the party will release its manifesto for the upcoming Assembly polls, which will be held in eight phases, from March 27 to April 29.

Banerjee will contest from Nandigram against her protege-turned Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari.
