The much-anticipated statue of Princess Diana was unveiled by her sons Prince William and Harry on her 60th birth anniversary in Kensington Palace%u2019s Sunken Garden. The statue is designed by renowned artist Ian Rank-Broadley in Kensington Palace%u2019s Sunken Garden.

The statue depicts the Princess of Wales surrounded by three children, said to represent the %u201Cuniversality and generational impact%u201D of her work, according to a statement by Independent. Kensington Palace said the statue aims to %u201Cconvert her character and compassion%u201D, adding that Diana had %u201Cgained confidence in her role as an ambassador for humanitarian causes%u201D towards the end of her life, as reported by Independent.

The bottom of the statue which was debuted on Thursday bears a plinth engraved with Princess Diana%u2019s name and the date of the unveiling of the statue. In front of the statue, a paving stone is engraved with an extract from the poem %u201CThe Measure of a Man%u201D, which is also featured in the program for the 2007 memorial service for Princess Diana.

The extract says: %u201CThese are the units to measure the worth/Of this woman as a woman regardless of birth/Not what was her station?/But had she a heart?/How did she play her God-given part?%u201D The inscribed poem has been previously connected to the late royal. The author of the poem is unknown, but the popular verses were earlier read at funerals to remember a loved one who has passed away.

In a joint statement on Thursday, Prince William and Harry said: %u201CToday, on what would have been our mother%u2019s 60th birthday, we remember her love, strength, and character %u2013 qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better. %u201CEvery day, we wish she were still with us, and we hope that this statue will be seen forever as a symbol of her life and her legacy.%u201D

The 2007 memorial service also featured the poem. It was held to mark the 10th anniversary of Diana%u2019s death and was attended by nearly 500 guests, including more than 30 members of the royal family.
