As son Luv Sinha is taking the electoral plunge from Patna’s Bankipur assembly seat, Actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha on Monday clarified that he is not retiring from politics.
Luv has been fielded by the Congress party from Bankipur seat that is a stronghold of BJP from where the saffron party has nominated three-time MLA Nitin Nabin. Bankipur falls under the Patna Sahib Lok Sabha constituency, which is currently held by Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. Shatrughan Sinha was defeated by Prasad from this seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
“I am not tired and retired. I will continue in active politics,” the 74-year-old politician, who left BJP and joined Congress before the general elections last year, told PTI.
Shatrughan, who is among the star campaigners of the Congress party along with Rahul Gandhi, said he would join campaigning for his son later this week.
The Bollywood actor said Luv joined Congress as it was the party’s choice and also because ‘the youth of the constituency wanted a new face who carries out development work sincerely.’ He added that this does not mean he is saying goodbye to politics.
Luv has filed his nomination papers from the seat which will go to the polls in the second phase on November 3.
Shatrughan said Luv is fighting the assembly elections as “Bihari Putra” (son of Bihar).
