With 2,11,298 new COVID-19 cases in 24 hours, India’s total tally rises to 2,73,69,093

  • On Wednesday, a total of 3847 deaths were recorded
  • 21,57,857 samples for COVID-19 were tested across India in the past 24 hours
  • So far, a total of 2,46,33,951 people in the country have recovered from COVID-19

India recorded 2,11,298 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. With this,
the nation’s tally of COVID-19 cases increased to 2,73,69,093. There are
currently 24,19,907 active cases in the country.

On Wednesday, India recorded 3,847 COVID-19 deaths, which took the death toll to 315,235. 

A total of 

283,135 people recovered on Wednesday, taking the tally of recovered COVID-19 cases in the
country to 2,46,33,951.

21,57,857 samples for
COVID-19 were tested across India in the past 24 hours, the Indian Council
of Medical Research said on Thursday. As of May 26, as many as 33,69,69,353 samples for COVID-19 have been tested across India.

The nation kicked
off its mass vaccination drive against COVID-19 on January 16 and as of May 27,
over 202 million people have received at least the first dose of the COVID-19
vaccine. As of Thursday, 1,885,805 people were vaccinated against COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

India administered
its first foreign-made vaccine dose of Russia’s Sputnik V on May 14. The
country is now administering three COVID-19 vaccines, including Covaxin and
Covishield. 

Recently, complaints from the state of Punjab arose regarding supply of vaccines from US biotechnology company Moderna, which, as per the complaint, refused to engage in a trade with the Punjab government, saying that the company would only deal directly with the Government of India.
