Singer Harry Styles made history on Friday as he became the first solo male cover for Vogue, reported Page Six. Styles wore a ball gown, a look custom-created by Gucci’s Alessandro Michele and paired it with a cropped tuxedo jacket.

Styles was photographed by Tyler Mitchell, who became first black photographer to shoot a Vogue cover when he had photographed Beyonce for the magazine in 2018.

Style sports an array of gender-bending looks in the photographs, which include a Comme des Garçons Homme Plus blazer and kilt set, a Wales Bonner knitted sweater vest and kilted skirt and a black-and-white checked jacket by JW Anderson.

Designer Emily Adams Bode was tasked with creating a custom pair of corduroy pants covered in emblems significant to Styles, which also includes his several tattoo designs and favorite imagery.

Styles’ former One Direction bandmate Zayn Malik as well as Justin Bieber have previously covered American Vogue alongside girlfriend Gigi Hadid and wife Hailey Baldwin, respectively.

When stylist Harry Lambert had first approached the ‘Watermelon Sugar’ singer about wearing flared pants seven years ago, he had dismissed the idea. However, they are now part of his well-established aesthetic.

Styles told Vogue’s Hamish Bowles, “You can never be overdressed. There’s no such thing. The people that I looked up to in music — Prince and David Bowie and Elvis and Freddie Mercury and Elton John — they’re such showmen. As a kid it was completely mind-blowing.”

He added, “Now I’ll put on something that feels really flamboyant, and I don’t feel crazy wearing it.”
