In a bizarre event, a Virginia man was arrested for allegedly breaking into a bank and stealing some loose change and a soda before fleeing the crime scene.

According to NBC News, the incident occurred at approximately 9:06 am on Monday, June 21. After a bank burglary alert was raised, Sergeant Zotos from the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office in Stafford, Virginia reached the crime scene only to find that bank tellers suspected that the bank was burglarised overnight.

The official, after reviewing the footage, found that a male suspect later identified as 48-year-old James Rupe of Roadsville, Virginia gained access to the building with a help of some things kept outside of the building.

“The suspect is seen rummaging through cash drawers and stealing change. He then retrieves a soda from the employee breakroom and drinks it before exiting the bank the same way he entered,” the official said.

“Once outside the bank, the suspect removes the change from his pocket and puts it in his backpack before leaving the area on his bicycle,” the police officer added.

Only a few hours after the incident, the police responded to another report of an apparent disturbance at a hotel and said that a man was causing a disturbance.

When the police reached the spot, they immediately recognised the man and took him into custody. Following this, a warrant was obtained for breaking and entering. Currently, according to a news report, he is being held without bond at the Rappahannock County Jail.
