The incident occurred on the West Rim Trail near Scout Lookout. Park rangers, assisted by visitors with emergency medical training, responded but were unable to revive him despite extensive CPR efforts and the use of medical equipment. The trail was temporarily closed for rescue operations and has since been reopened.
