A woman in the United States was headed to sleep when she noticed the fuzz on the floor moving. She soon learned that she had a snake and her 17 babies as guests in her residence. Trish Wilcher quickly informed husband, Max Wilcher, who carefully plucked them off the ground, placed them in a linen bag before taking them to a nearby creek and releasing them there.

“Ok we have turned the bedroom upside down… found 17 babies and the momma. Up the street they have cleared some land that has been grown up for some time now … therefore we were the home spot for her litter! Still not confident that was the last of those things. Scared shirtless to be honest! No sleep tonight… just glad I saw that little tiny piece of what I thought was fuzz and went to pick it up!!!” Trish Wilcher wrote on Facebook.

Meanwhile, Daniel Sollenberger, a biologist for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, told USA Today that it is not uncommon for snakes to get into homes.

“Being small means they can get in small cracks at times and sometimes wind up in houses and garages,” he told the outlet.

He went on to say that detecting them is a bit difficult as they don’t smell or make much noise.

“There is a myth out there that snakes smell like cucumbers, but unfortunately they don’t smell that good. They usually don’t smell like anything unless you pick one up and smell it a lot; you might smell a musky, really nasty smell,” he said.

Trish told local media that she found out the snakes were non-venomous garter snakes. These small to medium-sized snakes are usually found in North and Central America. They populate a variety of habitats, including forests, woodlands, grasslands, and lawns.
